THE HERD
"Cleire" is the registered name of the herd. At 1st March 2003, it comprises five milkers. All adults are registered with the British Goat Society and are of British Alpine lineage. The herd was established in 1979.
THE FARM
The farm consists of 27 acres on Cape Clear, west of the Church. We are registered makers of ice cream and cottage cheese (IRL1007), on the island. Please visit the goats; and buy our products, either at the farm, or at Harpercraft, at North Harbour.
Holiday on dramatically beautiful Cape Clear Island, West Cork, and learn to love one of humanity's oldest friends. For many years the well known Cleire Goats farm has welcomed visitors to look around. The farm now offers practical courses in goat husbandry designed for people with little or no experience of the goat to gain a basic understanding of the animal, its handling and management.
Cleire Goats' owner, Ed Harper, a qualified teacher with twenty-one years practical goat-keeping experience will conduct the courses which include hands on milking practice, against the stunning backdrop of Roaring Water Bay and the West Cork coast line.
Five-day course Minimum ten hours of theory/practice.
Two-day course Minimum six hours of theory/practice.
One-day course Approximately five hours of theory/practice.
Part-day courses also available.
Suitable for all ages.
Children under ten-years-old must be accompanied by an adult.
Maximum group size, eight. Guide dog owners welcome.
Accommodation: Camping, hostel, self-catering and guest house accommodation is available on the island. Course runs all year round.
