Ard na Gaoithe was originally built as a family residence for the newly appointed landlord’s agent, William Shipsey Mór, in 1833. Over the following century several generations of the Shipsey family lived here in The Glen until Dora Shipsey Mór, her husband Sam Beamish and their seven children moved to Sherkin Island in 1922. Almost half a century later the Leonard family bought this residence and have renovated and extended it to its present state. It is now a warm, friendly and cosy family country home that welcomes guests to enjoy good food, warm hospitality and comfortable accommodation. Cape Clear Snowman
by Liam Murphy
***
There is snow on
Eileen Leonard’s wall
Good Friday on Cape Clear
The ritual of recognition
and tea
Her flame haired daughter
builds a snowman
A world of welcome at
their family table
Such are the welcomes of
the world
No need of Redemption
or Salvation
The Retreat from the
world stops here
An island adrift on the ocean.
